Winners! Innovative News Award 2022-23

First News Newspaper of the Year Innovative News Award 2022-23

In today's rapidly evolving digital landscape, the power of technology is shaping the way news is created and consumed. One shining example of this transformation is our work with Old Bexley TV, a groundbreaking news project that recently clinched the prestigious First News Newspaper of the Year Innovative News Award for the year 2022-23.

The core philosophy behind Old Bexley TV is to empower pupils, foster creativity, and instill a sense of responsibility and leadership. Through this initiative, the year 5 and 6 News Crew have the opportunity to hone their communication skills, develop their journalistic instincts, and become confident public speakers. By working together as a team, they learn the importance of collaboration and problem-solving.

At Old Bexley TV, the young reporters cover a range of school events, from assemblies and sports days to art exhibitions and science fairs. Equipped with cameras, microphones, and writing materials, these budding journalists capture the essence of each event and present it to the wider school community.

Old Bexley TV stands as a shining example of how young minds can revolutionise news reporting, even within their own school community. Through their passion, creativity, and dedication, the Old Bexley year 5 and 6 News Crew have redefined what it means to be journalists and managed to have their voice heard.

We are incredibly proud of the team's achievements and have loved working with Old Bexley C of E Primary School this year! Programme 2 is out shortly, but for now take a look at their first programme, broadcast in March this year!
